We’ve run into a small snag in finishing our Gerlach 90KW install, in that the racking still hasn’t arrived. It’s expected to next week, we hope to be able to have a dedication ceremony on December 17th–stay tuned.
We were completely surprised and thrilled to see this editorial in today’s Reno Gazette Journal:
‘Burning Man organizers and volunteers are setting a wonderful example with their gift of solar panels to Lovelock’s Pershing General Hospital and to Gerlach schools. The group is acting on justifiable concern for the environment. They’re also working smart by creating this partnership with the hospital and the general community to encourage the manufacture and use of renewable energy technology. …” Read the rest here.
The juice is (almost) on at Pershing General Hospital! Yesterday about 30 people, including County Commissioner Roger Mancebo and Sheriff Ron Skinner, gathered to watch Matt Myntttinen of BRS and Hospital administrator Matt Reese cut the ribbon on the new 30kW array gifted to the hospital. It’s believed to be the largest solar array ever given away.
According to the Reno Gazette Journal, which covered the story, the array will provide almost half the hospital’s power needs, and provide them with $130,000 in free, green energy over the next 20 years. “It will save the hospital thousands of dollars annually, which represents dollars that can be invested in new medical equipment,” Reese said. “We’re also pleased because this is a green project so we are helping protect the environment.”
Congratulations to the entire crew that built the project: Richard, Eli , Matt, Drue, Quiet Dave, Insane, Doug, Niko, Jonathan, Dick Hughes, Samantha, Jonathan, Bill Brooks, and Joe Pizur.
